Sewing in Tight Quarters

03.16.12_touch upMy sewing space.
This is what happens when I sew. Disaster in the bedroom.
See the little ironing board on the floor? Yes, I do most of my working on the floor. Cutting, pinning, and ironing all happen on the floor. Someday I’ll have a cutting table, and my back and legs will be grateful for it.

[Recipe] Individual Chocolate Pudding Pie

03.14.12_1_touch upHappy pi day!

It’s pi day! 3.14. I love pi day! Why? Because it’s a great excuse to indulge in pie!

I made individual chocolate pudding pies for Kyle’s coworkers. They were so easy and fun to make.

03.14.12_2_touch upI used a muffin tin for transporting all of the cups.

Individual Chocolate Pudding Pies
(makes 12)

Graham Cracker Crust:
1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers (You know how a box comes with three smaller packages? One whole little package made enough for me.)
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
Mix the three ingredients together. Press 2 tsp. of crust mixture into the bottom of 12 (9oz.) plastic cups. Let chill fro 30 minutes.

Pudding:
2 (5.9oz.- the bigger ones) boxes of chocolate instant pudding
6 cups milk
Whisk the pudding mix into the milk for 2 minutes. Pour 3/4 cup of pudding into each of the (12) graham cracker bottomed cups. Top with whipped cream and serve! (Or chill the pudding until ready to serve and top with whipped cream just before eating)

Yum!

Sew-vivor

Remember my zig zag quilt? (Which is now permanently resides on Hailey’s bed. I just couldn’t wait for her to use it. What if she was satisfied in her crib until she’s really too big for it, and then we just move her up to a twin bed and then she never gets to use the quilt I put so much time and love into…)

My friend, Kathryn, at Destination Craft, suggested I enter my quilt into a sewing competition called Sew-vivor being hosted at Family Ever After. So, after some hesitation, I did.

Entering my quilt was just applying to be a contestant. By entering, if chosen, I would be participating in a crafty-blogland version of Survivor. Where each week is a new sewing challenge and each week a couple of participants are voted off. Until three are left and first, second, and third place prizes are awarded.

I’ve never done anything like it. I sew because it’s fun. It makes me happy. Usually. It just feels good to finish something that you love. But the thought of sewing to compete was scary, and overwhelming and… then the more I thought about it I realized, what does it matter. It’s just for fun. I don’t have to go anywhere, do anything scary or dangerous. If I were chosen, I’d just have to sew. And I like to do that. Plus, what are the chances anyway?

Ha.

Well… I was selected to be one of the 10 participants! Out of 188 entries, my quilt was selected, along with 9 other fabulous projects.

Wowsers. What are the chances… famous last words, eh?

Anyway, I’m definitely excited. It’ll be fun. It’ll force me to be creative and sew. And it’ll give me a deadline.

I’ll let you know when the time comes, and you can vote for me!
