A Makeshift Spool Winder

09.22.12
What do you do when you’re in the middle of a sewing project and run out of thread? Go to the store and buy more?

Yeah, you can.

But I didn’t want to.

Luckily I have an awesome husband who wound a new spool of thread for me- man style. A large cone of white thread + an empty spool + a drill - a trip to the store = a new fresh new spool of white thread. Sewing can now continue and I can stay in my pajamas.

[Recipe] Lazy Cake Cookies from I’m a Lazy Mom

I have a love/hate relationship with baking cookies with Hailey. I love the idea, and I want to enjoy it. I love that Hailey loves helping me bake and gets so eager and excited. Which is why I also dislike it. Hailey wants to do it all, makes a huge mess, doesn’t always listen to my instructions, and isn’t ever patient enough to wait for me to help her. (Really, I shouldn’t expect any different. She’s 2 1/2, that’s the story with everything we do.) So, when I find a simple recipe, I’m all over it.

Hailey and I tried out the Lazy Cake Cookies recipe from I’m a Lazy Mom (found via Pinterest.) All you need is 1 cake mix, 2 eggs, 5 T. melted butter, and chocolate chips or M&M’s. Mix it all together, spread in a 9x13 pan, and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Easy peasy!

It was totally the perfect recipe for toddler baking. Minimal mess and Hailey can do most of it herself.

The bars are perfectly soft and so good. We’re keeping this one. Yum!

Cutting Paper = Toddler Fun

04.19.12_collage

Apparently cutting paper is super fascinating and fun. Hailey loved it! I think we need to invest in her own pair of scissors.

Sewing in Tight Quarters

03.16.12_touch upMy sewing space.
This is what happens when I sew. Disaster in the bedroom.
See the little ironing board on the floor? Yes, I do most of my working on the floor. Cutting, pinning, and ironing all happen on the floor. Someday I’ll have a cutting table, and my back and legs will be grateful for it.

[Recipe] Individual Chocolate Pudding Pie

03.14.12_1_touch upHappy pi day!

It’s pi day! 3.14. I love pi day! Why? Because it’s a great excuse to indulge in pie!

I made individual chocolate pudding pies for Kyle’s coworkers. They were so easy and fun to make.

03.14.12_2_touch upI used a muffin tin for transporting all of the cups.

Individual Chocolate Pudding Pies
(makes 12)

Graham Cracker Crust:
1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers (You know how a box comes with three smaller packages? One whole little package made enough for me.)
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
Mix the three ingredients together. Press 2 tsp. of crust mixture into the bottom of 12 (9oz.) plastic cups. Let chill fro 30 minutes.

Pudding:
2 (5.9oz.- the bigger ones) boxes of chocolate instant pudding
6 cups milk
Whisk the pudding mix into the milk for 2 minutes. Pour 3/4 cup of pudding into each of the (12) graham cracker bottomed cups. Top with whipped cream and serve! (Or chill the pudding until ready to serve and top with whipped cream just before eating)

Yum!

Toddler Apron

My valentine’s gift to Hailey: her very own apron.

I used a combination of tutorials from here and here (both links, I of course found on Pinterest.) I love how it turned it out, I think it’s so cute. And I want one for me.

Fabric

02.09.12_touch upOh, I love fabric.
I have projects to work on. Things I want to make, that have been sitting on the shelf for months. I just don’t have the motivation to start. Maybe tomorrow…

Color in a Bag

02.02.12_collageColor in a Bag
I. Love. Pinterest. I’ve seen a few variations of this activity floating around there lately. I used the recipe from Family Fun to make this squishy-squashy bag of fun. Hailey played with it for a few minutes and then quickly moved on to her favorite activity: reading books. It wasn’t as big of a hit with her as I hoped it would be. But I had fun with it!

Pipe Cleaners and a Colander

01.17.12_touch upPipe cleaners and a colander. 10-15 minutes of toddler fun.
I can’t take all the credit. I saw this idea a few months ago on pinterest. I guess I didn’t pin it though, because I can’t find it again to link back to.
